How to Desize Starch from Cellulosics
It is very important that cellulosic goods to be dyed are free of any processing chemical additives such as sizes, waxes, oils, peroxide, chlorine, or natural contaminates.
General Procedure for Starch Desizing of Cellulosics
Thoroughly wet-out goods for five minutes in an aqueous solution containing the proper enzyme, 0.6% common salt on weight of goods(owg), and 0.1% owg Orconol CHSA Conc™ with pH set at 6-7. Steam goods for 3 minutes at a temperature of 212°F(100°C), drop bath, and rinse.
Continuous Procedure for Starch Desizing of Cellulosics
Set wet pickup to 70% and run goods through 140°F(60°C) bath containing the proper enzyme and 0.15% Orconol CHSA Conc™ on weight of bath. Let rolls set for a minimum of eight hours.
Wash goods through a rope washer with water at 180°F(82°C) and dwell time of 15 seconds. This bath should contain no detergents or surfactants.
Pass goods through second washer at 150°F(65°C) with dwell time of 15 seconds.
